A Late Spring Update
With Summer on the horizon and the year being nearly halfway done, I thought it about time for an update to the Loremother Blog. So much has happened in the last few months and although I'm still figuring out what it means for the future, I'm excited to share with you some of the biggest updates.
A Full Time Job
Perhaps the most important thing to mention is that I am now employed as a full-time Content Marketer with StartPlaying.Games. StartPlaying is an online event platform that connects professional game masters with tabletop players looking for their next game. I had started my work with the website as one of the professional game masters on their platform back in late December and I could not be more excited to help the company continue it's growth. Biases aside, they have truly built a remarkable community that I am proud to be a part of.
Of course, it is still a full-time job and that comes with sacrifices to my career as a freelancer, although I'm happy to say not many. The most important sacrifice to discuss is time. With more of my day being occupied with a full-time position, I needed to take time to prioritize my personal creative efforts and obligations. Here is how it's all being effected:
Professional Game Mastering: I will be continuing to run games professionally on the platform, although one-shots will be more infrequent and I will not be starting any new campaigns for the foreseeable future.
Game Design: For the majority of collaborative projects I have been working on my assignments have already been submitted and approved. I will not be taking on any new freelance gigs in the tabletop game writing and design space for the foreseeable future.
Streaming: My streaming schedule is still being figured out. I'm hoping to get to a place where I can stream my Friday night Visual Novel stream consistently. I am happy to say starting this summer, I will be joining the cast of my colleague and friend WaywornWyrm's actual play of Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden. More details as they arise.
Creative Writing: I am excited about upcoming projects related to new creative writing endeavors, but they are still too early in development to discuss at this time. You will be able to find my flash fiction piece, Find Monlo, in the upcoming anthology Flashbang Vol. 2 published by the Storytelling Collective and available on the DriveThruFiction digital marketplace.
With all the change happening right now with my career, my personal life (yay, wedding planning!), and the world at large (currently writing this as governments begin re-opening up amidst the waning(?) COVID-19 pandemic) I don't have a fixed place that I can easily see myself in one, five, or even ten years from now. What I can say is this: I really like the directions that my life is heading towards and I'm excited to figure it out as I go.
